One of my new year resolutions is to make 2011 more offline – anyone close to me knows that I almost spend 24 hours online. So far it’s been not bad – I did have some pretty interesting initiatives which makes life more colorful.
1. 行山 Hiking
My international hiking team is a very random but cheerful team. We hike once a month, and we’ve been to the Junk Peak in Clear Water Bay, Tai Mo Mountain, Tai Tan Trail to Hoi Ha, the Twins on HK Island, and more. Every time we have new friends joining in, and sometimes we have as many as 20 people going together. Staying outdoor and talk to real people – instead of IM and email, is really fun.
T.T Sunday
T.T Sunday is a monthly salon that I initiated for Putonghua speakers who care about China. We usually sit down together on a lazy Sunday afternoon, talking about China issues. T.T stands for think and talk. Every time we have a theme – though we usually go off-topic. We’ve talked about Nobel prize, Ai Weiwei, identity problem for mainland people in HK, web 2.0 in China, and we host in turns.
Pass-It-Forward Book Exchange
PIF is very self-explanatory. After finish reading a book, you don’t stack it at home, neither do you trash it. Instead, you pass it forward to someone else who also like the book. As an obligation of joining this PIF group, he or she is supposed to pass it forward again. In this way, we extend books’ shelf-life by offering it new shelves. I don’t even know who is holding my books now – probably someone that I would never have the chance to know in person. But, doesn’t that make life sweeter?
What’s the next?
